Claiming

A claim is when someone commits to buying a gift. The claiming system is central to Giverr’s surprise protection:

  • When you claim a gift, other givers can see it’s claimed
  • The wishlist owner never sees claim information
  • Claims go through a lifecycle: To Buy → Purchased → Wrapped → Given
  1. Open a wishlist you want to shop from (via Gift Groups, Events, or a share link)
  2. Find a gift that hasn’t been claimed
  3. Click the Claim button
  4. Select the quantity (for gifts requesting multiple)
  5. Optionally link the claim to an event (for budget tracking)

The gift is now marked as claimed for other givers, but the wishlist owner sees nothing.

If you’re shopping for an event with budget tracking:

  1. When claiming, select the event from the dropdown
  2. The gift amount counts toward your event budget
  3. Track all event claims in the event’s budget dashboard

Track your progress through the claim lifecycle:

  1. Go to your Shopping List
  2. Find the claimed gift
  3. Update the status:
    • To Buy — Not yet purchased
    • Purchased — You’ve bought it
    • Wrapped — Ready to give
    • Given — Delivered to the recipient

Changed your mind? Release the claim so others can buy it:

  1. Go to your Shopping List
  2. Find the claim
  3. Click Unclaim or Release
  4. The gift becomes available for other givers

When viewing someone’s wishlist, you can see:

  • Which gifts are already claimed
  • Who claimed them (name only, not purchase details)
  • How many units are still available for multi-quantity gifts

This helps you coordinate without duplicating purchases.

The claiming system protects surprises automatically:

WhoWhat They See
Wishlist OwnerTheir wishlist with no claim info
Other GiversFull claim details for coordination
Real-time UpdatesInstant sync to prevent duplicates

You don’t need to configure anything — Giverr handles surprise protection at the data layer.
