Core Concepts

Before diving in, it helps to understand the key concepts that make Giverr work.

A wishlist is a collection of gifts for a specific occasion. Each wishlist has:

  • An occasion type (birthday, wedding, holiday, etc.)
  • An occasion date (when the event happens)
  • One or more gifts you’d like to receive

You can have multiple wishlists for different occasions throughout the year.

Gifts are the items on your wishlist. You can add them by:

  • Pasting a URL — Giverr extracts product details automatically
  • Manual entry — Enter details yourself for custom or offline items

Gifts have a priority level (Want, Really Want, Dream Gift) to help givers know what matters most.

A claim is when someone commits to buying a gift. The claiming system is central to Giverr’s surprise protection:

  • When you claim a gift, other givers can see it’s claimed
  • The wishlist owner never sees claim information
  • Claims go through a lifecycle: To Buy → Purchased → Wrapped → Given

Gift Groups are permanent communities for year-round wishlist sharing. Think of them as your inner circle:

  • “Smith Family”
  • “College Friends”
  • “Work Buddies”

Members can share their wishlists with the group, and everyone can see upcoming birthdays.

Events are time-bound occasions with their own invite system:

  • “Office Secret Santa 2024”
  • “Dad’s 60th Birthday Party”
  • “Wedding Registry”

Events have a start date, optional budget tracking, and can have different operating modes (everyone gives to everyone, or all give to one honoree).

Family Profiles let you manage wishlists for people who don’t have their own Giverr account:

  • Children too young for an account
  • Elderly relatives unfamiliar with technology
  • Anyone else you want to create lists for

As a manager, you can add gifts, share the profile’s wishlists, and coordinate on their behalf.

The core of Giverr’s design:

  1. You see your wishlist without any claim information
  2. Givers see your wishlist with full claim details
  3. Real-time updates keep everyone coordinated without spoiling surprises

This happens automatically — you don’t need to configure anything.
