Set Up Your Family

Want your family to always know what each other wants? A Gift Group is a permanent circle where everyone shares wishlists year-round - perfect for birthdays, holidays, and those “just because” moments.

By the end of this guide, you’ll have:

  • A family Gift Group created
  • All family members invited and connected
  • Everyone’s wishlists visible to the group
  • Birthday reminders set up automatically

  1. Go to Gift Groups

    From your dashboard, click “Gift Groups” in the sidebar, then “Create Group”.

  2. Name your group

    Keep it simple and recognizable:

    • “The Johnsons”
    • “Smith Family”
    • “Mom’s Side of the Family”
    • “The Crew” (no rules - call it whatever you want!)
  3. Add a description (optional)

    A quick note about who’s in the group:

    • “Mom, Dad, and the kids”
    • “Extended family gift coordination”
  4. Choose a group icon and color

    Make it easy to spot in your sidebar. Pick colors or icons that feel right for your family.

  5. Click “Create Group”

    Your family group is born!


Now let’s get everyone connected.

  1. Click “Invite Members”

    On your group page, you’ll see the invite options.

  2. Copy the invite link

    Giverr creates a unique link for your family group.

  3. Share with your family

    Send it out via:

    • Family group chat
    • Email
    • Text message

    Add a message like:

    “Hey fam! I set up a Gift Group on Giverr so we can all share wishlists. Click the link to join, then add your birthday wishlist so we know what you want!”

  4. Family members click and join

    They’ll:

    • Create a Giverr account (if new)
    • Automatically join your family group
  5. Watch your group grow

    See who’s joined on your group page. Send reminders to anyone who hasn’t clicked yet!


Once family members join, they can share wishlists with the group.

  1. Create a wishlist

    Each person creates wishlists for their occasions:

    • “My Birthday Wishlist”
    • “Christmas Ideas”
    • “General Gift Ideas” (for anytime!)
  2. Add gifts

    Paste product links or add items manually. Include a variety of price points!

  3. Share with the group

    Click “Share” on any wishlist and select your family group. Now everyone in the group can see it!


One of the best features of Gift Groups: automatic birthday reminders!

  1. Make sure everyone has their birthday set

    Each family member should have their birthday in their profile settings.

  2. Birthday reminders happen automatically

    Group members will get notified as birthdays approach:

    • 2 weeks before: “Mom’s birthday is coming up!”
    • 1 week before: “Don’t forget - Mom’s birthday is in 7 days!”
  3. Quick access to their wishlist

    Click the reminder to jump straight to their wishlist and start shopping.


For family members who won’t have their own Giverr account (kids, grandparents, etc.):

  1. Go to Family Profiles

    Find this in your dashboard sidebar.

  2. Click “Add Family Member”

  3. Enter their details

    • Name
    • Birthday
    • Relationship (child, parent, grandparent, etc.)
    • A photo (optional)
  4. Create wishlists for them

    Add gift ideas on their behalf:

    • “Emma’s Birthday (Age 7)”
    • “Grandpa Joe’s Holiday Ideas”
  5. Share their wishlists with your group

    Their wishlists appear alongside everyone else’s. Family members can claim and coordinate gifts!


Once your family group is set up, here’s the day-to-day experience:

When you look at a family member’s wishlist, you see:

  • All their gift ideas
  • Which items are claimed (and by whom)
  • Notes from other family members

This lets you coordinate without buying duplicates!

  1. Browse a family member’s wishlist
  2. Click “Claim” on something you want to buy
  3. Other family members see it’s claimed
  4. The wishlist owner never knows!

All your claimed gifts across all family members appear in one Shopping List. Track what you need to buy, what’s purchased, and what’s been given.


Get Everyone On Board

The more family members who join, the more useful it becomes. Send those reminder texts!

Keep Wishlists Updated

Encourage everyone to add items when they think of them, and remove things they’ve bought themselves.

Mix Price Points

Wishlists should have small $20 items AND bigger dreams. Gives everyone shopping options!

Use for Big Holidays Too

Your Gift Group works great alongside holiday Events. Share wishlists to both for maximum coordination.


Your family Gift Group can evolve over time:

  • Add new members when someone joins the family (marriages, new babies when they’re old enough, etc.)
  • Create sub-groups if needed (immediate family vs. extended family)
  • Adjust who sees what with wishlist sharing controls

Yes! You might have:

  • “Immediate Family” (parents + siblings)
  • “Extended Family” (cousins, aunts, uncles)
  • “In-Laws”

Share different wishlists with different groups as needed.

No pressure! You can always share individual wishlist links with anyone, whether they’re in the group or not.

If they’re old enough to manage an account, sure! Otherwise, create a Family Profile for them and manage it yourself.

Go to the group settings and click “Leave Group”. You’ll stop seeing their wishlists and they’ll stop seeing yours.
