Common Questions

This is by design! Giverr protects the surprise by hiding all claim information from wishlist owners. Other givers can see claims to coordinate, but you’ll never know who’s buying what until you receive your gifts.

No. You cannot claim gifts on your own wishlist. This prevents gaming the system and ensures the surprise model works correctly.

What happens if two people claim the same gift?

Section titled “What happens if two people claim the same gift?”

This can’t happen — once a gift is claimed, other givers see it as claimed and can’t claim it again. For gifts with multiple quantities, givers can claim remaining quantities until all are taken.

Go to your Shopping List, find the claim, and:

  • Update the status (To Buy → Purchased → Wrapped → Given)
  • Add private notes about what you actually bought
  • Unclaim if you can no longer fulfill it

Will the recipient see my notes on a claim?

Section titled “Will the recipient see my notes on a claim?”

No. Claim notes are completely private to you. The wishlist owner never sees any claim information, and other givers don’t see your notes either.

Can I see what someone bought me after receiving the gift?

Section titled “Can I see what someone bought me after receiving the gift?”

No. Giverr doesn’t reveal claim information even after the occasion. This is intentional — it keeps the magic alive for future gift-giving.

Yes! Create as many wishlists as you need for different occasions. Each can have its own date and be shared with different groups.

What happens to my wishlist after the occasion date?

Section titled “What happens to my wishlist after the occasion date?”

Wishlists become “historical” after their occasion date. They’re archived but still accessible for reference. You can copy a historical wishlist to create a new one for next year.

Share links have view counts, but we don’t track individual viewers by default to respect privacy.

Yes! Click the menu on any wishlist and select Copy Wishlist. This creates a new wishlist with the same gifts (and refreshes prices for URL-based gifts).

Can I delete a wishlist with active claims?

Section titled “Can I delete a wishlist with active claims?”

Yes, but claims will be preserved in givers’ shopping lists. They’ll see that the wishlist was deleted and can decide whether to still purchase the gifts.

Wishlists are automatically archived when their occasion date passes. You can also manually archive by editing the wishlist and setting the date to the past.

What’s the difference between a Gift Group and an Event?

Section titled “What’s the difference between a Gift Group and an Event?”

Gift Groups are permanent — use them for family and close friends who share wishlists year-round.

Events are temporary — use them for one-time occasions like an office party or a specific birthday celebration.

Yes! You can be a member of as many groups as you like.

Yes. Go to the group settings and click “Leave Group.” Your past claims are preserved, but you’ll no longer see the group’s wishlists.

What happens to my shared wishlists if I leave a group?

Section titled “What happens to my shared wishlists if I leave a group?”

Your wishlists are removed from the group, but the wishlists themselves still exist. Active claims on those wishlists are preserved.

Yes. Go to group settings, find the member you want to make admin, and transfer ownership. You’ll become a regular member.

Yes! Event organizers can set per-person budgets. Each participant sees their spending against their budget in the event dashboard.

Automatic extraction works best with major retailers. If it fails:

  • Try a different product URL
  • Switch to manual entry
  • Check that the URL is publicly accessible

Can I add the same gift to multiple wishlists?

Section titled “Can I add the same gift to multiple wishlists?”

Yes! Gifts in Giverr are “canonical” — the same gift can appear on multiple wishlists. Claims coordinate across all wishlists.

For gifts added via URL from major retailers, prices refresh when you copy a wishlist. Manual gift prices don’t update automatically.

Yes! When adding a gift, set the quantity field. Givers can claim partial quantities, and the gift shows as fully claimed only when all units are taken.

What’s the difference between priority levels?

Section titled “What’s the difference between priority levels?”
PriorityMeaning
WantWould be happy to receive
Really WantHigh on your list
Dream GiftThe thing you really hope for

Givers can filter by priority to help them choose.

Section titled “Can anyone with a share link see my wishlist?”

Yes, unless the link has expired or been revoked. Share links are designed for easy sharing outside your Gift Groups.

How do I stop someone from seeing my wishlist?

Section titled “How do I stop someone from seeing my wishlist?”
  • For Gift Groups: Remove the wishlist from the group or remove the member
  • For Share Links: Revoke the link in your wishlist’s share settings
  • For Events: Wait for the event to end, or remove the participant

Yes. Don’t share it with any groups and don’t create share links. Only you can see a private wishlist.

A lightweight persona for someone who doesn’t have their own Giverr account — like a young child or elderly relative. You manage wishlists on their behalf.

Can a Family Profile become a real account?

Section titled “Can a Family Profile become a real account?”

Not directly. If the person creates their own account, you’ll need to manually migrate their wishlists (copy them to the new account).

The same rules apply as regular wishlists. You control who sees them through Gift Groups and share links.

Can I use Giverr without creating an account?

Section titled “Can I use Giverr without creating an account?”

You can view wishlists via share links, but you’ll need an account to claim gifts, create wishlists, or join groups.

Go to SettingsAccountDelete Account. This is permanent and cannot be undone.

Yes. Giverr uses industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections, secure authentication via Clerk, and regular security audits.
